Hola amigos

nice to see all the old amigos still around and the site resurrected. think its a good choice to charge something for the privilege and kudos to whoever is behind it.

most of my time in TJ was in 04-06 and since spent a lot of time in CR and some in Medellin but an old friend has been begging me to wing w him for a couple of days since i speak reasonable Spanish and can navigate things w general common sense

i've met some of you and am familiar w the escort pricing on the sites etc but didn't see much talk on bg prices or at least what a typical HK, AB bargirl is going to say on average. say for a mid tier will it be $120ish for an hr? i would typically do Wed or Thurs and negotiate multiple hours during a slower period anyway so i never take the ask price too seriously. still good to know

also are things relatively similar in terms of danger etc? the covid fiasco over? coming from LA and always used to park at Ysidro, walk in, go over the bridge and grab a taxi to the zone.

appreciate any help and tyia

Welcome back amigo!

From what I have been reading here (I moved to Spain 2-1/2 years ago) BGs nowadays are asking anywhere from $100 to $120 or more for the standard 30 minute session.  Top tier HK girls are asking as much as $200.  The occasional $80 girl can be found.  If you are talking midweek daytime girl, you can certainly not expect to pay more than $100.  Smart guys with good negotiating skills with their own rooms are getting an hour for $120-$200.

Tropical and Chicago are cheaper than HK.  It goes downhill in quality and price from there.  Bargain basement: Bar Reno!

"Danger" is no worse or better than before.

Sadly, Adelita is closed.  It was shut down by the Feds last February (more than a year ago!!) and has not ever reopened.  There's a thread here on it, of course.

But 100-120 is about the ballpark for HK, unless you're showing up on a Friday night and want the perfect 10 who's on stage with 20 guys throwing money at her, but that's always been the case. ;)

Covid is long gone as far as protocols, but some of the chicas (SGs, particularly) still wear the masks and I've seen a few of them on the BGs here and there.

Parking costs will make you choke if it's been a few years since you came down.  The cheapo lot next to the outlet mall is long gone because of the new entrance into Mexico and rates are ridiculous everywhere else that's left.  Holiday Lodge still has parking but it's tough to score a spot.  I tend to drive across so   I'm sure a few of the other Amigos can chime in @QuietGuy, @Melcher Dingle, @soulcal on current pricing and ideas.

But HK runs the limo most of the day and night from the border by the taxis so you can ride that (even if you don't have a VIP card) for a small propina and skip the taxi hassle at the border.

Make sure you have a passport that's current.  This is Mexico so who knows if they'll be checking the day you cross but some days everyone gets checked.

If driving and parking on US side of the border, you could park at one of the Trolley lots and take the trolley back and forth to the border...

That's exactly what I've been doing for 17 years.  I used the one at Palm Avenue just a couple blocks east of I-5.  Never once have I have a problem often staying 3 nights at a time.  From the Palm trolley station it's only 10 minutes to the border.

I did stay a week once long ago so after 4 days at Palm I moved north one stop to Palomar for the final 3 days.

Im also in agreement on taking the trolley. Parking at the border has become a real hassle especially on weekends not to mention it costing a small fortune if you are there for a day or two.

I would always park at holiday lodge if I was lucky enough to find a spot. But  then after staying a day longer than planned  a couple times and getting my tire chained they banned me. Boy ohh boy that was the best thing ever, muchos gracias holiday hotel assholes.

Now I park at the Palm ave. Trolley lot , you cant beat it. Free parking and  for the small fare you get dropped off right at the border and leaving TJ you board steps from customs and taken  right to your car. Not only are  you avoiding the border traffic nightmare  but that nice little train ride gives you a chance to do a last minute check up on this site.

As far as negatives, sure you will occasionaly run into a crazy person the key is avoid eye contact and you will be ok. I have heard there is some kind of time limit regarding parking. But I dont think it is enforced , I  regularly park there for 2 or 3 days at a time and have not had any issuse. So far the worst experience was when I had to go to trolley headquarters in San Diego to prove I was elderly to get verified for a discount. Jeez what has happened to San Diego? I thought I was in LA' s skidrow.

Trolley Headquarters? As on Imperial Avenue in Downtown San Diego? Oh yeah, that Crazy Hobo Central... close to Father Joe's Village and various homelessness soup kitchens, etc.

that's sad. seemed like they had the model until HK moved in next door. hard to believe you can't stay in business on that street. is it just boarded up?

Not boarded up, just closed with security out front to protect whatever booze remains inside, guessing is substantial?

Liked the place 17 years ago pero asi, liked them all ja ja!

Living in San Diego and off work at 3PM I could be in TJ easy by 4PM, actually earlier.  Load up on carne asada tacos, the place on the right, end walking in before the taxis, to me the best and never over cooked.

A bit expensive but worth it and sometimes I would order their carne asada burritos for me and my gal, so damn good and reminded me of a long gone place in Kearney Mesa here in SD, Albertos.

totally agree some of my best memories are the food and a main reason i'm down w doing a run. my memory was if you walk out of AB turn left past HK and down to that corner the best taco cart was right there as you rounded to the left. Mexicans were swarming it and they were making them as fast as any i've ever seen. absolutely delicious. watched an old Bourdain on Mexico and was drooling!

Just so you know @TJ Flyer I'm a trolley senior by definition.  Those new Pronto machines, no options for us as in the past, no idea what gives when mass transit is supposed to help.

So I've had the Pronto card for a couple of years and clearly it does have a bar code on the back, will they reimburse me?  Could get interesting if they do not.

@Blazers your opinion on such and I understand it is trivial yet, still if they do not, is a class action in order?  Or simply easier to take a pass?

I usually park at Palm avenue trolley stop.  I buy an individual senior ticket every time at the kiosk and pay with debit card $1.25.

there is a selection available for senior or  disabled.

Good to know but every single time?  Seems like much time wasted but maybe not.  Gracias!

My M.O. as well.  Buying the ticket takes seconds.  Parking is free (I like Beyer trolley stop if spot available,  Iris Ave as backup) I don't want to drive across the border or drive in TJ. I  time my entrance to Mexico for minimum line,  return with Global Entry is always effortless, barely break stride. HK limo is comfortable and free and safe (no random stops by TJ's finest)

Converting an existing Pronto to a senior fare is a bitch.  You have to be logged in, go to  a special spot on their website, it takes a picture of your ID, then of your face, and if everything works, it lowers your per-ride amount when scanned.   Stark raving sober, don't expect it to work the first 4+ times, and if it doesn't accept the input at any step you have to start all over.  Save your sanity, buy a ticket, and have a grandkid do the conversion for you at the next family event.

MTS made a lot of mistakes with that new  system.  The tiny LED window is pretty much useless which was stupid as LEDs are so very cheap to purchase.

I always wondered how many 10s of thousands of riders had to purchase reading glasses for that very reason.

That's what I did but it was very easy and I don't want to lose my card because then I have to go back and get a replacement

I've seen people folded over and with that zombie walk at the 5th and C trolley stop as people walk by. I've seen a dude whip it out and take a piss right on the sidewalk as pedestrians, most likely tourists, walked right by him and kept on keepin' on...again right in front of the CVS and House Of Blues. I've seen a guy walk in the middle of 6th and Broadway as traffic on both sides was going by. And the Central Library was a recent feature on Inside Edition's story about how libraries are becoming more violent. I've also been spat on by kids on the trolley whom I was later told by trolley "security"were homeless. And been next to a guy again on the trolley who was swinging a chain-not a necklace but something you would attach your car to.

That's just what I have all experienced that I can remember.

(Hawaii, the craziest homeless thing I can remember is a haole on a mattress on Kalakaua Avenue with his sign: "Why lie? I need beer". And Tj has its share of people but they're in the last stages of life. They barely have the energy to stand, let alone cause outright mayhem)

I saw this mentioned on the San Diego Reddit just last week. It was said that people on drugs look like they're frozen in place, barely trying to stay awake. For if they were to fall asleep, their high will be wasted.

I rode by downtown today for the annual Bike to Anywhere day and while passing through the transit hub at 12th and Imperial, noticed it was a huge improvement from previous years.  If you think it looks rough now, it was ten times worse just a year or two ago as most hobos moved to friendly areas like Chula Vista.

I'm in downtown SD a lot after midnight.  It's like a @fotofreak slideshow.  Since you're mentioning the 5th & C trolley stop, the old California Theater a block away down C St was like a Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights attraction for years where the homeless were camped out in front and had breached it and gotten inside.  The cops wouldn't go near it except during Covid when they would move some of the at-risk FOB homeless from the sidewalk to camp out in front of the courthouse where the courthouse guards inside would keep an eye on them there so long as they left during the day.  They finally cleared the Theater out a little over a year ago and made the new owner secure it.  They didn't do anything to help the homeless there, just cast them back to the regular camping spots in the southeast part of downtown.

I've never had a safety issue with the homeless in SD - head on a swivel, steer clear of the mentals and be polite with the norms, maybe make a little smalltalk.  Only one close call and no surprise it was with the cops.  Once crossing Union by the courthouse after midnight I stumbled on a cop SUV parked in the shadows by the construction there and two cops holding a man against the fence while a non-uniformed person was beating the living shit out of him.  Even with his face in the shadows, from what I could make out the dude was already looking like an Emmett Till coffin photo.  A second later the two cops dropped him and swooped around after me without saying a word - no shouts, no orders, nothing.

Before this little episode I always copped an attitude towards the news articles of people getting beaten or shot by the cops for trying to run away from what seemed like simple encounters.  Why run if you've done nothing wrong?  But the evil in those cops' silence made my legs go into cartoon windmill autopilot and I turned and ran like I was a third my age.  I only made it a block out and around the corner onto Broadway before the pending heart attack forced me to stop, and risking a look back, I saw they had never even pursued me beyond just scaring me off.  As soon as I could breathe enough to believe I had not stroked out, I did go back around the other side of the courthouse to see if I could sneak a picture or video, but by the time I was able to drag my heaving mass around and back there everybody was already gone, cops, other dude, even poor Emmett.  I've rationalized stories that maybe he was somebody really bad that the cops had pulled out from the jailhouse a block away to let his victim get a little old-fashioned justice, then took him back and tossed him in his cell.  Or maybe the third guy was an off duty cop or detective the dude may have gone after, fair or not.  I've also rationalized that I stumbled across an open door to hell and those two cops were just demons out for a little fun.  I've also dreamed about being chased by those cops - swooping after me like a pair of uniformed Harry Potter dementors caught in mid-kiss.  A lot.

A lot of irony and action takes place a block or two away from the rich downtown party playgrounds of America's Finest City.

P.S.  I'd hate being homeless in Hawaii.  Sounds like fun, but those poor souls are the mangiest looking homeless you ever saw - they look like they are rotting.  And no wonder - with the humidity and it raining every day, they probably never get completely dry.
