Hey guys,

This will be my first time going to TJ. In my mid twenties from the Midwest, and looking to have a good time. Definitely going to be an interesting time to be going there now, but hey thats life. Originally was planning to go mid September,  but an old friend  said she was going to be arriving this week so I booked earlier. Unfortunately she flaked on me after I bought my ticket lol, so I'm going to be solo there when I arrive this Friday. I'm flying directly into Tijuana airport instead of San Diego because I didn't want to get stuck on the border and miss my return flight, so hopefully that doesn't become a problem. Been lurking for a little bit and soaking up the wisdom, and excited to be down there.

Welcome aboard. I was supposed to fly out there on Sunday, but cancelled that a few days ago. Have fun and let us know how it goes

Uber is your friend for getting around Tijuana, although it doesn't work from the airport unless you walk down the street a pace (not recommended for your first time).

Where are you staying?  Where are you going?

Is your female friend a monger too?

I'm staying at Hotel Ticuan, it seemed to be really recommend on this forum. My original plan was to after flying in late afternoon get settled and check out the Hong Kong and the speakeasies. Then Saturday rent a car and hangout with my friend in Rosarito on the beaches and eat some food. She asked people she knows there to see if anything to visit in Ensenada  like the vineyard were open but apparently they weren't. So current plan, maybe still go to Rosarito, but no car since she won't be looking over my shoulder since I'm not sure how driving in Mexico will be like. Other than that just go with the flow see if anything interesting is open or to do.

She's just a regular chick unfortunately, used to work in Tijuana for many years before moving. So she was going to show me around.

Vinyards are indeed open in Ensenada.  Stayed the weekend of July 23 with Jana, my wonder twin.  Went to Cielo then Desconectar.  Check instagram, there are pics as recent as today.

I can attest to the fact that the wineries are open and thriving in the Wine Valley, Ensenada, i.e. Valle de Guadalupe, Ensenada!

Go West (South) young Man!!

Enjoy!

The Ticuan is a great home base.  IIRC, there was a recommended driver somewhere on the forum here who could take you to the wineries down in Ensenada if you're wanting to check that out.  But it is a long drive and the wineries are very spread out.  It's best done with at least one or two other people and will take up most of the day.

From Ticuan, strolling over to Caesar's for dinner is a great start to your adventure here.  Eat dinner at the bar if you're traveling solo.  I often wind up in interesting conversations with others sitting at the bar.

You might also consider ordering in an escort for an hour or two to your room at Ticuan.  Try booking in the next day or so.

I'm not sure of the status of Ubers in Rosarito.  For a while, it was very difficult to catch one to come back to Tijuana.

Download Google Translate for your phone and get the Spanish dictionary for offline use if you're not fluent.  If you don't have WhatsApp on your phone, get it.  Most everyone here uses it as it works over WiFi.
