I Lurk because I don't have much to contribute but here is a story of my very first trip to Tijuana.

My First time going to Tijuana was on a thanksgiving night several years ago. I went with a couple of friends on a spur of the moment, 2 of us were first timer. We drank some tequila before heading across the border. My non first timer friend is fluent in Spanish so it made things easier throughout the trip. We took a yellow taxi and they recommended us to go to Amnesia. We decided to go since my friend never been there before. When we got there it was pretty much empty. Wasted some money on drinks for some girls and more drinking for us. When we left, we decided to walk toward Hong Kong but while we were walking my other newbie friend needed to take a piss. He went into an alley and did his business, not sure what sort of trouble we would of been in if he was caught.  Afterward as we were walking we waved at a taxi to take us to Hong Kong but soon after the cops pulled us over. I didn't think anything of it, my newbie friend was drunk, the non newb was panicking a bit. We got out of the taxi and from what my friend told me they stop us because they said we saw the police and got into the taxi to get away. They Patted us down looked through our stuff then let us go. I didn't know anything about corrupted cops. We made our way to Hong Kong and Adelitas to experience a strip club like night. Was a trip to just take a look around.

Probably a year afterward I started to lurk tja about escorts. Wanted to see which type I like better and decided I was more of a bar scene person. The person I saw was Luz from mlb, don't think she work anymore but has a really nice personality.

A question I have is do I need to make a reservation to hotel Cascadas or can I just go in and get a room short notice? I don't usually plan my visit.

...I think @Maverick can share some advice about the Cascadas reservation process.

You need to make a reservation.  I’ve tried a number of times (5 or 6) to just wing it and show up in the afternoon or early evening and probably 80% of the time I’m told “nothing available, make a reservation.”

I think during the week you would be ok but you might need to settle for Rizo de Oro if Cascaidas is full.  I have gone to TJ various times without a hotel reservation but I wouldn't recommend it on a weekend.

Hotel Coahulia (Adelita's hotel) often has overnight rooms available with no notice - $20 on Mon, Tues, Wed.

Yes- I have taken advantage of this several times with no notice needed. Just walk right up and get your room.
