Candy drive for Halloween on Revo

Recommended Posts

So @sampson had this idea for Halloween and I'm feeling like he posted it on here somewhere but I can't find it.  Anyway, as a prelude to our annual Amigos de Santa thing, we're going to be giving out candy on Revo in front of El Torito Pub (home of Sampson's Fiestas) during the Halloween event.  (If you didn't know, they shut down all of Revo on Halloween and the kids run around to all the businesses for candy.)  Our costumes for the night will be the Santa hats the Amigos wear at Christmas Eve when we give out all the presents in Zona Norte.

If you want to donate a bag of Halloween candy for our efforts, message me or Sampson and we'll arrange to meet up with you either in TJ or somewhere in San Diego.  Or if you're feeling generous but lazy, message me and you can donate $$ via PayPal or Cash App.

We'll also need a few Amigos on Halloween to help out with doling out the goods!  Things get started on Revo around 4pm from what I remember last year....

I believe I put it in the Amigos de Santa thread.  I know everyone is going to think I am crazy (or know I am crazy) but I have bought $60 worth of candy already.  I like to spend a little every week so it does not hurt to spend money.  I have it in my fridge and I know that is like asking a drug addict to guard the globos, but I swear I have not touched it.  I have not eaten any chocolate in close to 4 months.

What I think is prudent is to donate through the pay pal of fotofreak one time and when we use the money needed for Halloween we will have some left for Xmas and more people will donate in November like always.  I think we can get by on $600 of candy and I am going to spend a minimum of $100 my self and most likely more.

Where we can use the help is on Halloween to put the tables up and organize the candy.  I normally fill plastic buckets with candy and if you have not seen the chaos on Halloween we will need people just to run to the freezer and pull more candy and fill buckets up while the kids are visiting.  I don't know if we can be like the cuantos guys and make the little soldiers get in a single file line, but that would be great.  I think that maybe my friend DT can help and Foto may have some people in mind but 10 would be a good number in my mind.

Also I should be getting football newletters again this year and will be happy to send them to anyone that donates $50.  It is over $1000 worth of newletters every year.  Roughly $50 retail a week and I pay $400 for them and if you buy them weekly it would be over $1000.  I know everyone is not a football gambler and that is fine but it might be something some of you would like?

Any contributions or volunteering would be greatly appreciated.

Nice generous thought for the kids.  But scrub the Santa outfits, it's Halloween foto for Christ's sake!

You're a creative person mija and I know you can do better than Santa hats?    Jaja!.

Well the Santa Hats will bring attention to our Amigos de Santa program.  It is going to be hot that night and if someone donates $100 by September 1, I will wear the entire Santa gear so you can punish me. :)

I got that part but the attention is already there, you've been doing it for years.  It's Halloween and as you mentioned could be hot out and you want to wear a Santa suit, on Halloween?  The concept is simply wrong for Halloween, just sayin'.

Makes more sense than a Santa suit on Halloween, IMO.

@soulcal - surprisingly, Amigos de Santa is still relatively unknown.  It's the Amigos who donate, wrap the presents and stuff the stockings, and then deliver the goodies.  The couple of businesses who toss in a few pesos to us are friends of Sampson's or mine.  We figured the Santa hats would be an easy way to dress up for Halloween and bring attention to Amigos de Santa for the bigger Tijuana population as it seems like EVERYONE in Tijuana is out on Revo on Halloween.... :)

In spite of my extensive wardrobe of exotic and unusual items that I wear whenever I take a notion to do so, I haven't dressed up for Halloween in decades.

I get that and as far as attention to the Amigos de Santa, sure it can't hurt with Christmas around the corner.  But I suspect, dunno for sure that Samps is probably recognizable in his costume with as you mentioned, tons of folks on Revo.  So that leaves you, put on that damn hat already!

We are going to have plenty of business cards and hopefully we can get a few sponsors.  I don't feel like soliciting donations of more than 200 pesos except maybe the sports teams and Caliente Casinos are in big this year.  I think this event can springboard our Xmas project.  Maybe some people will see us and talk to their bosses about donations.  Right now this is Gringo funded probably 90% but maybe with some luck we can get lots of locals to add something that will make the big picture a lot brighter for our project.

I hope so for the kids. It's a slippery slope, 200p eres mucho for the average, pero nada por Caliente,  you may want to consider 100 but I'm not sure how you actually intend to solicit.  In any case I wish you folks the best of luck and generosity.

I have a few businesses seeking me out to give 200 pesos.  Caliente most like gave us a commitment in excess of $500US  in playing cards and sandwiches.  I think we can get some things from the sports teams like T-shirts, Pom Poms and maybe nerf balls that will be much appreciated gifts for the kids.

I'm gonna try my best to make it to this as a volunteer or whatever I can do. Halloween was SO much fun last year on Revo. I didn't do anything, just went for food. But seeing everyone all dressed up and having a great time...wow smiles all around.

It's not a work night, so it should be okay...

I have been buying chocolate about $20 at a time since August and have put together about $200 worth so far, but have no more room in my fridge right now.  I did find this non-chocolate gummy candy at Grocery Outlet and bought 24 boxes last night.  They are only 99Cents for one box.  Most likely will buy another 24 or so since they do not need to be refrigerated.

If you can help, with candy or as a volunteer to work this event on Halloween please send a pm to Fotofreak or my self.  I am thinking we may need to set up around 4pm that day as Rev is filled with kids early.
